On the 31 January 2018, the City Bridge Trust Committee agreed its new funding programmes to deliver its Bridging Divides Funding Strategy for 2018/23. This strategy will take a ‘total assets’ approach to ensure the best use of the Trust’s non-monetary resources, including the expertise of the City of London, its trustee and its links to local, regional and national Government and the private sector. The Lord Mayor will open applications for the 2018 Lord Mayor’s Dragon Awards on 5 February. The Awards celebrate businesses that are achieving excellence in social impact, and seek to inspire others by showcasing best practice in how businesses tackle social issues. The 2018 Awards will feature the Lord Mayor’s Award – Business of Trust Champion. This Award celebrates businesses which are championing responsible business practices to create a legacy of better business trusted by society. This category is by personal nomination by the Lord Mayor only. Businesses of any size and sector can apply for all other categories by visiting www.dragonawards.org.uk. Budding astronomers who don’t mind bracing the cold can join The Friends of West Ham Park’s Lyndsay Jones as she gives another fascinating insight with this short tour of the night sky and her introduction to stargazing. This free event on 9 February at 7pm will give enthusiasts the chance to learn the basics of stargazing and how to find constellations and planets visible from the park. Lyndsay will share her knowledge of astronomy, explain how to read charts and show you where to find the bright stars and main constellations at a particular time and place.
