City of London Academy Islington

The staff and students of City of London Academy Islington were delighted to be involved once again in the City Schools’ Concert at Milton Court on 15 January. Students enjoyed taking part in energetic workshops with Paul Griffiths, working together with students from the other City schools to create a stunning finale piece. A further 15 students from the Academy were invited to perform as part of the choir and advanced orchestra; the orchestral item being ‘Rey’s Theme’ by John Williams, and the choral item ‘Rise Up’ by Andra Day, featuring three vocal soloists from Years 9 and 11. In attendance at the concert were staff from the Academy, including our Executive Principal, Ms Verga, and Head of School, Ms Jacob, and parents of the performers. Ms Dornan, Head of Music, commented: “We are extremely fortunate to have access to performance opportunities of this calibre. Students are already eagerly discussing what we should perform next year, and this experience has clearly made a lasting impression on them all.” Students spoke highly of the opportunity to perform in this concert and collaborate with other schools. Tia Motamedi-Morton, Year 8, said “it was nerve-wracking, but once you started to sing you felt like you could do anything.”
