Sixth formers from the City of London Academy Southwark visited the Royal Courts of Justice to watch the ancient Quit Rents and Services Ceremony on 5 October. This provided a valuable opportunity for those interested in studying Law to gain a unique insight into the workings of the Royal Courts of Justice. The Academy has been actively seeking support for our Oxbridge/Medical Pathway Bursary Programme and have been grateful to receive commitments of funding from the Worshipful Company of Barbers, the Curriers and from Ipsos MORI. This year a record number of pupils met the bursary criteria and hope to benefit from the financial support it provides. The Academy has continued its efforts to raise pupils’ aspirations and stretch their thinking through a range of projects. Through its Maths Hub, the Academy has hosted “Maths Beyond the Syllabus” sessions for our Further Maths pupils in collaboration with author Julian Havil. The Academy has also started a Salter Lecture series, “Uni Topics Early” for gifted and talented pupils and is also looking forward to hosting a workshop on Parliamentary Debating facilitated by members of the Oxford Union Debating Society on 8 November.
