The 2009 Employee Volunteering Awards saw City of London staff being honoured for their wide-ranging volunteering activities in communities bordering the City.
The event held in the Basinghall Suite on 1 June, which was attended by Bill Fraser and Barbara Newman, among other committee members. Stuart Fraser, Chairman of Policy and Resources Committee, hosted the evening, saying: “It’s wonderful to see City of London Corporation volunteers and their community partners here to celebrate employee volunteering.” Winners were presented with a £500 cheque for the organisation that they volunteer with, and a bottle of champagne for themselves.
Chris Duffield, Town Clerk and Chief Executive, presented awards to: Tychius Thomas from the Public Relations department for his work with CARIS, building a new contact management system for them; Eva George from the Economic Development Office for her outstanding contribution to FareShare over the last four years, dedicating one evening a week to support the charity; Hannah Reid and other mentors from City of London Police, particularly recognising Hannah’s extensive commitment to managing the mentoring programme and being a mentor herself; Catherine Breen from the Economic Development office for her regular volunteering and fundraising for Girl Guides UK; and Jeff Beaton from Open Spaces for his commitment to Chigwell Riding School Trust for Special Needs, to whom he has dedicated every Friday morning for the last 12 years.
