At its meeting on 19 November the Policy & Resources Committee agreed that the two dispersal zones, one in the west of the City (Wards of Castle Baynard, Farringdon Within, Queenhithe and Vintry) and one in the east (Wards of Bishopsgate, Portsoken and Tower)
be extended for a further three months until March 2010. Reports of defecation and urination, harassment, intimidation and theft from supermarkets and individuals led the City Police to request the Corporation as the local authority for the zones to be created and, since their introduction in September 2009, the dispersal powers have been an important additional tool in reducing rough sleeping and addressing associated anti-social behaviour.
