A Safer Coleman Street
Being at the very heart of the Square Mile, our
area is the focus of much City life with major firms, transport infrastructure,
retail outlets, pubs and eateries based along Moorgate and London Wall. As a
consequence, City workers and visitors criss-cross through our streets and
alleyways all through the day and into the evening. It's the City Corporation's
duty to protect all who come into the area:
·
We need more police walking the beat,
particularly after nightfall;
·
We need better lighting, especially in small
lanes and alleyways; and
·
We must make sure building works are safer and
don't impinge on pedestrians as they move around the streets.
A
Cleaner, Greener
Coleman Street
Despite receiving 'Beacon
Council' status for its climate change strategy, the Corporation has a
lamentably poor record at supporting businesses and residents to recycle waste
and improve energy efficiency. Its newly introduced commercial recycling
service attracts high charges and was introduced with little consultation, just
like the charges for ordinary waste four years ago.
·
We need better lower cost commercial waste and
recycling facilities, easily accessible for all businesses
·
We need proper on-street waste and recycling
bins, adequate to support the large numbers of people who work in and visit our
area
·
We must reduce carbon emissions by better
planning of road works to keep traffic moving though the City
A
Connected Coleman
Street
Ease of access into the Square
Mile and handy amenities are absolutely essential to keep the City flowing and
ensure it remains the world's leading financial and professional services
centre.
·
We need better public transport links into the
City, including monitoring the vital Crossrail
project to ensure it is delivered on time and on budget.
·
We must replace the expensive and unreliable
'Cloud' service with a free and comprehensive wifi
network throughout the Square Mile
·
We need to make sure that the Moorgate Post
Office and other vital amenities stay in the central City area
An Open Coleman Street
In a free Society, barriers to participation must
be removed to ensure fair access to public services and involvement in civic
and business life.
·
We must ensure our elected officials are more
reflective of the society they serve - in the City that means making the
Corporation younger and more diverse
·
We must ensure greater accountability with more
regular contact from councillors through newsletter, surgeries and briefings on
key issues affecting businesses in the area
·
We should review the availability of childcare
for those that work in the City and seek to ensure that firms continue to have
access to a skilled and effective workforce
