Hampstead Heath

The Mixed Bathing Pond is currently being emptied of silt and mud to improve the water quality for swimmers and for wildlife. Some of the silt will be used to build revetments which will be planted with aquatic plants. The work will be completed in May. Funfairs have been hosted on Hampstead Heath since the end of the 19th Century. The Fun Fair is back on the Heath for Easter.

City of London School London Youth Choir

City of London School is the official rehearsal venue for the London Youth Choir, and this week they held their fifth birthday concert in our Great Hall. The hall was packed out with over 450 in the audience along with all 201 members of the Choir. Patron of the Choir, Gareth Malone, was there alongside founders Rachel Staunton and Suzi Digby OBE, who chatted with Head Alan Bird and thoroughly enjoyed the performances.

Community Safety Team

On 22 February, the Community Safety Team hosted an event for representatives from London boroughs and housing associations looking at how to respond to the challenges of hate crime. The Mayor’s office for Policing and Crime and the judiciary, looked at the scale and nature of the problem in London, current responses and how these might be improved. City of London Police

A busy month for the City Police with significant activity from the Economic crime directorate, the most notable of which was the sentencing of a man from Dorset for selling fake air-bags. Robert Czernik sold £30,000 worth of fake air-bags at £175 each and was given a suspended sentence and ordered to do 135 hours of unpaid work. Continue reading City of London Police
